Samurai Bleed Build

The Sanguine Ronin — Unabridged Guide for Elden Ring & Shadow of the Erdtree

Dexterity / Arcane Patch 1.10 Viable High Damage PvE ✓ PvP ✓ DLC Compatible

Build Overview

Fast, aggressive, and lethal. The Samurai Bleed build stacks blood loss on enemies through rapid katana hits. When the gauge fills, Hemorrhage triggers — removing ~15% of the target's max HP instantly. Stack two procs on a boss and you've ripped 30% of their health bar in seconds, regardless of how much HP they have.

Build Identity The Sanguine Ronin
Starting Class Samurai
Primary Stats Arcane · Dexterity
Core Weapon Rivers of Blood / Dual Uchigatana
Core Mechanic Hit → Buildup → Hemorrhage proc
Best For PvE & PvP, boss-shredding, high damage

The Samurai Bleed build is widely considered one of the strongest archetypes in all of Elden Ring — not just in the base game, but including Shadow of the Erdtree. It combines the Hemorrhage status effect (which removes a flat percentage of an enemy's maximum HP on trigger) with fast katana attack strings and high Arcane investment to cycle procs at an almost obscene rate.

This is not a passive playstyle. You need to maintain constant pressure — bleed buildup decays if you stop attacking. The build rewards aggressive, read-then-commit play: learn when to get in, stay in, and rip two Hemorrhage procs before the boss can breathe.

Core Mechanic
Arcane is the primary stat for bleed builds — not Dexterity. Even though katanas often show only D-scaling in Arcane vs B-scaling in Dex, Arcane investment simultaneously boosts both weapon damage and your blood loss buildup value. Dexterity is a secondary investment. This is the single most important thing to understand.

Three Primary Build Paths

Classic Dual Katana

Best for: New players, early-mid game, learning the build. Dual wield Uchigatana + Uchigatana (or Uchi + Nagakiba) with Blood affinity and Seppuku. Powerstance L1 attacks hit twice simultaneously, doubling bleed buildup per swing.

This is the recommended starting path. You can run this all the way to the final boss with only modest investment.

Sanguine Samurai (Rivers of Blood)

Best for: Endgame, min-maxed damage, boss shredding. Rivers of Blood's Corpse Piler skill deals fire + physical damage, applies bleed, and hits 5 times in quick succession — even from mid-range. Two activations often equals two Hemorrhage procs on a boss.

Obtained late game (Mountaintops of Giants). This is the top-tier variant once unlocked.

Nagakiba Quality Build

Best for: Players who want excellent reach, PvP viability, and shield-breaking. Nagakiba is the longest katana in the game. With Seppuku and powerstanced with Uchigatana, it has exceptional range advantage. Splits investment between Strength and Dexterity (quality) rather than going heavy Arcane.

Strengths

  • Percentage-based Hemorrhage shreds bosses regardless of HP pool
  • Fast attack strings mean constant buildup pressure
  • Multiple viable weapons at every stage of the game
  • Extremely fun, aggressive playstyle with big proc moments
  • Scales excellently into Shadow of the Erdtree
  • PvP viable with proper read-and-punish timing

Weaknesses

  • Buildup decays if you stop attacking — constant pressure required
  • Some late-game bosses are immune or highly resistant
  • No shield — requires solid dodge timing
  • FP-hungry when spamming Corpse Piler
  • Rivers of Blood is late-game locked — early game needs patience

Stats

Recommended Class: Samurai. No other starting class matches this for a bleed build. The Samurai starts with the Uchigatana (a bleed-capable weapon), strong Dexterity, and respectable Vigor. The starting Land of Reeds armor is functional, and you have a Longbow for pulling enemies. This is not a close contest.

Stat Softcaps
Vigor: Hard diminishing returns after 60 — aim for 40–60 depending on build level. Dexterity: Softcap at 80, but meaningful returns end around 60 for this build. Arcane: Good scaling through 50-60, tapers beyond. After ~45 Dex and ~50 Arc, further points into Faith (for Golden Vow at 25) often outperform.

Stat Priority Order (Dex/Arc Path)

Weapons

Every weapon listed here works across multiple stages. The Uchigatana can genuinely carry you to the final boss. Use the tier ratings to understand priority, not necessity.

Tier S — Endgame Powerhouses

S
Rivers of Blood
Katana · Dex/Arc · Fire+Physical

The definitive bleed katana. Built-in Corpse Piler skill chains 5 hits with fire + physical damage, bleed buildup per hit, and superior range over any standard katana attack. Two activations frequently procs Hemorrhage twice. Even after the 1.06 nerf it remains dominant.

Bleed 73Arc ScalingDex Scaling

Requirements: 12 Str, 18 Dex, 20 Arc

📍 Mountaintops of the Giants — Church of Repose. Kill invader Bloody Finger Okina.
S
Godskin Peeler + Seppuku
Twinblade · Str/Dex · Blood Affinity

Underrated monster. The running heavy attack hits four times, triggering Hemorrhage almost instantly. With Blood affinity and Seppuku applied, this might be the highest single-target bleed DPS in the game. Requires a detour to Altus Plateau.

High Buildup22 Dex Req

Requirements: 17 Str, 22 Dex

📍 Altus Plateau — Windmill Village. Dropped by Godskin Apostle boss.

Tier A — Core Build Weapons

A
Uchigatana
Katana · Str/Dex · Blood Affinity

Your starting weapon as Samurai and the backbone of the build from level 1 through endgame. Fast, reliable, and with Blood affinity + Seppuku it procs Hemorrhage in 3-4 hits. A second copy exists in Deathtouched Catacombs for powerstancing.

StarterBleed 45

📍 Starting gear (Samurai) + Deathtouched Catacombs (northwest Limgrave) — body at bottom level.
A
Nagakiba
Katana · Str/Dex · Longest Reach

The longest katana in the game. Same moveset as Uchigatana but with spear-like range. Excellent powerstance partner for the Uchi. Works superbly with Seppuku or Piercing Fang for shield-breaking. Strong PvP pick for rollcatching.

Superior RangeBleed 45

📍 Kill Bloody Finger Hunter Yura near Murkwater Cave (Limgrave) OR complete his questline — he drops it at Second Church of Marika (Altus Plateau).
A
Eleonora's Poleblade
Twinblade · Dex/Arc · Fire+Physical

Wildly underrated. Has one of the most damaging Ashes of War in the game (Bloodblade Dance) — a spinning multi-hit that triggers Hemorrhage almost instantly. Arcane scaling. Requires completing Yura's questline but is worth the effort.

Arc ScalingVery High Buildup

📍 Defeat invader Eleonora at Second Church of Marika, Altus Plateau (end of Yura questline).
A
Reduvia
Dagger · Arc/Dex · Ranged Bleed

Best early-game arcane bleed weapon. The unique skill fires blood bolts at range, applying bleed buildup without closing distance. Outstanding for big, dangerous bosses. A natural off-hand option throughout the game alongside katanas.

Early GameArc Scaling

Requirements: 5 Str, 13 Dex, 13 Arc

📍 Kill invader Blood Finger Nerijus near Murkwater Cave, Limgrave. Yura NPC assists you.

Tier B — Honourable Mentions

B
Bloodhound's Fang
Curved Greatsword · Str/Dex

Innate bleed + powerful Bloodhound's Finesse skill (jump back + slash). Great early-mid option if you want a heavier weapon. Doesn't benefit from Arcane as much as katanas.

📍 Forlorn Hound Evergaol, south Limgrave. Kill Bloodhound Knight Darriwil.
B
Moghwyn's Sacred Spear
Great Spear · Str/Arc · Fire+Bleed

Mohg's own weapon. AoE Bloodboon Ritual skill melts groups and most bosses. Incredible Arcane scaling. Very hard to acquire (requires reaching Moghwyn Palace) but devastating in the right hands.

📍 Boss remembrance — Mohg, Lord of Blood in Moghwyn Palace.
B
Scavenger's Curved Sword ×2
Curved Sword · Str/Dex · Dual Wield

Dual-wielded with Seppuku is arguably the absolute highest DPS bleed build in the game. One copy per playthrough means you need NG+ for this — but if you have two, this clears everything absurdly fast.

📍 Mount Gelmir — on a corpse near the Grafted Scion northeast of Volcano Manor.
Affinity — Blood vs Occult
Apply Blood affinity to your katanas for maximum hemorrhage buildup. Blood affinity adds Arcane scaling and increases blood loss buildup on the weapon. Occult affinity also scales with Arcane and can rival Blood for pure AR on certain weapons — test both at your current stat spread. For the classic Samurai bleed build, Blood is almost always correct.

Ashes of War

Priority Acquisitions

S
Seppuku
Self-buff · Blood Affinity Compatible

The single most important Ash of War in this build. Stabs the weapon into your own body, applying a blood buff that dramatically increases the weapon's bleed buildup for a limited duration and adds some extra damage. Always apply before tough fights. Reapply when the buff fades.

Note: it was nerfed in patch 1.06 — the buff duration and buildup bonus were reduced. It is still excellent and mandatory. Just don't expect the pre-nerf absurdity.

📍 Mountaintops of the Giants — Invisible Teardrop Scarab on the frozen lake near Freezing Lake grace. Use a torch or AoW to reveal it. Scarab runs northeast when revealed.
A
Bloody Slash
Active Skill · Fire+Slash Damage

Outstanding early-game option. A wide fire+blood arc that deals decent damage and applies bleed. Great on Uchigatana from very early in the game. Falls off compared to Seppuku but carries you through mid-game comfortably.

📍 Fort Haight, southeast Limgrave (follow path past Mistwood). Kill the Godrick Knight at the top of the fort — he uses this Ash and drops it.
A
Bloodhound's Step
Mobility · Iframes

The broken dodge. Grants significantly more invulnerability frames than a normal roll, travels further, and makes you nearly untouchable at the cost of FP. Exceptional on daggers (Reduvia) or even an off-hand weapon. Game-warping for difficult fights.

📍 Night's Cavalry (on the bridge near Lenne's Rise, Dragonbarrow / Caelid). Only spawns at night.
B
Unsheathe
Burst Damage · Poise Damage

The Samurai's signature starting Ash. Excellent poise damage (katanas are otherwise weak for stance-breaking). The heavy version has tremendous burst. Crucially, it is a neutral skill that allows weapon enchantments (like Bloodflame Blade) to be applied on top. Worth keeping on one weapon slot.

📍 Starting AoW on Uchigatana (Samurai class). Also found on various enemies.

Talismans

Core Four (Rivers of Blood / Dex-Arc Build)

Lord of Blood's Exultation
+20% attack power for 20 seconds whenever any blood loss occurs nearby. This procs constantly with this build — on enemies you damage, on spirits you summon, on yourself after Seppuku. Effectively a permanent 20% attack bonus in any serious fight.
📍 Leyndell Catacombs (underground Leyndell). Chest past the boss.
Rotten Winged Sword Insignia
Greatly raises attack power with successive attacks (stacking buff, 3 tiers). Since Corpse Piler and dual-katana strings hit 5+ times in a single combo, this builds up immediately and provides a massive damage multiplier on the later hits.
📍 Millicent's questline reward — complete her quest through the Scarlet Rot region to the end.
Shard of Alexander
+15% skill damage. Since Corpse Piler is your primary attack and Seppuku is a skill — this is a direct, reliable 15% boost to your most used abilities. Mandatory for the Rivers of Blood variant.
📍 Iron Fist Alexander questline reward. Complete his full questline through Jarburg and Crumbling Farum Azula.
Carian Filigreed Crest
Reduces FP cost of weapon skills. Corpse Piler is FP-hungry. Combined with Sacrificial Axe in off-hand (4 FP per kill), this lets you spam your primary attack without burning through Cerulean Tears. Swap for Green Turtle Talisman in longer boss fights.
📍 War Counselor Iji (northwest Liurnia). Available after triggering Blaidd's questline.

Situational Swaps

Green Turtle Talisman
Faster stamina regeneration. Swap in during long boss fights instead of Carian Filigreed Crest. Spamming combos eats stamina — faster regen means more attacks per window. Available extremely early.
📍 Summonwater Village, Limgrave — chest in the underground section.
Millicent's Prosthesis
+5 Dexterity + successive attack buff (lesser version of Rotten Winged). If you have both this and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, you can run both simultaneously for a stacking attack bonus — though this requires someone to drop you a duplicate via multiplayer.
📍 Millicent's questline (alternative branch reward).
Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman
Substantial physical damage negation. This build has no shield and takes hits. Swapping this in for survival fights is legitimate and doesn't sacrifice as much offence as you'd think — you're still procking bleed with the other three slots.
📍 Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree — in a chest near the Prayer Room grace.
Claw Talisman
+15% jump attack damage. Jump attacks apply good bleed buildup, trigger Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, and provide stance damage. Strong early-game talisman before you acquire the core four.
📍 Stormveil Castle — tower near the castle's courtyard.
Nagakiba Quality Build Talismans
Run: Lord of Blood's Exultation · Rotten Winged Sword Insignia · Millicent's Prosthesis · Great-Jar's Arsenal (for equip load with heavier gear).

Armour

Armor choice matters for two things: equip load (must stay under 70% of max for medium roll — the sweet spot for this build) and the specific helmet slot, where two pieces have direct offensive synergy.

Helmet Priority

HelmetBonusVerdict
White Mask +10% attack rating for 20 seconds when blood loss occurs nearby Best in slot for min-maxing. This procs constantly and stacks with Lord of Blood's Exultation for a combined ~32% attack bonus window.
Okina Mask +3 Dexterity (passive) Solid alternative and fits the samurai aesthetic. Free stat boost — takes your effective Dex to 51 if you're at 48. Slight visual bonus over the White Mask.
Land of Reeds Helm No special bonus Starting helmet. Balanced protection. Fine for early game but replace as soon as you find White Mask or Okina Mask.

Body Armour Options

Ronin's Set

Dropped after completing Yura's questline. Exceptional visual cohesion with the katana build. Light-medium weight with decent protection. The authentic endgame Samurai look.

Raptor's Black Feathers

+10% jump attack damage. Chest piece only. Extremely strong if you're using jump attacks as your primary bleed-stacking method. Pairs with Claw Talisman for +25% total jump attack bonus.

📍 Spiritcaller's Cave, Mountaintops of Giants.
Land of Reeds Set

Starting armour. Perfectly viable. Good weight-to-protection ratio and excellent samurai aesthetic. No shame in wearing this to the end — many players do.

Black Knife Set

Very light. Chest piece muffles footsteps. Good for aggressive, mobile builds where you want maximum weight budget for talismans. Clean aesthetic.

📍 Black Knife Catacombs, Liurnia.
Equip Load Rule
Never exceed 69.9% of your max equip load. Medium roll (under 70%) gives you the large dodge roll with good iframes. Heavy roll (over 70%) gives you a fat roll with almost no iframes and you will die. Use Great-Jar's Arsenal Talisman if you need extra carry capacity.

Buffs & Incantations

Essential Incantations

IncantationReqEffectNotes
Flame, Grant Me Strength Faith 15 +15% physical & fire attack for 30 seconds Does not scale with Faith — same at 15 Faith as at 99. Rivers of Blood deals both fire and physical, so this benefits every single hit. Use any Seal.
Golden Vow Faith 25 +15% attack and defence for 80 seconds After your Dex and Arcane are softcapped (~45/50), 10 more points into Faith for this outperforms 10 more points into Dex or Arc in terms of DPS. Stacks with Flame, Grant Me Strength.
Bloodflame Blade Faith 10, Arc 10 Coats weapon in fire, adds bleed buildup Applies to any weapon, including those that don't normally bleed. Great on an Unsheathe katana — adds bleed AND fire to a normally clean strike. Use Dragon Communion Seal.
Swarm of Flies Faith 11, Arc 16 Ranged blood flies cloud — procs bleed at distance Excellent opener for boss fights. Throws bleed buildup on an enemy before you even close distance. Synergises perfectly with Arcane investment.

Flask of Wondrous Physick — Best Combos

Boss DPS Combo

Thorny Cracked Tear — increases damage with consecutive attacks (directly synergises with Corpse Piler's 5-hit string)

Greenburst Crystal Tear — faster stamina recovery for the duration, allowing longer attack windows

Stance-Break Combo

Thorny Cracked Tear — same damage stacking benefit

Stonebarb Cracked Tear — makes it easier to break enemy stance/poise, opening critical opportunities alongside bleed procs

Pre-Fight Buff Sequence

Summon Spirit Ash (Black Knife Tiche recommended for boss fights — high damage, good survival)
Drink Flask of Wondrous Physick
Cast Flame, Grant Me Strength (+15% physical/fire, 30s)
Cast Golden Vow if Faith ≥ 25 (+15% damage/defence, 80s)
Apply Seppuku to weapon — increases bleed buildup significantly for ~30 seconds
Engage. All buffs now active simultaneously. Reapply Seppuku mid-fight when buff fades.

Combat Guide

Core Principles

Powerstancing Mechanics (Dual Katana)

To powerstance, equip the same weapon type (katana + katana) in both hands. Your L1 button now executes a dual-wield attack — hitting with both weapons simultaneously. This doubles your bleed buildup per swing and makes Hemorrhage procs happen in 2-3 hits. The tradeoff is stamina cost per attack is higher.

Jump Attack Priority
Jump attacks deal excellent stance damage and accelerate bleed buildup. With Raptor's Black Feathers chest (+10%) and Claw Talisman (+15%), you're getting +25% jump attack damage. In early and mid game before you have Seppuku, opening fights with repeated jump attacks is extremely effective.

Spirit Ash Recommendations

AshWhy
Black Knife TicheBest in slot for boss fights. High damage, extremely mobile, rarely dies, doesn't need to be a tank. Obtained from Night's Sacred Ground in Ringleader's Evergaol (Mountaintops of Giants).
Mimic TearCreates an exact clone of your loadout — including bleed procs. Two of you spamming Corpse Piler is unhinged. Requires Larval Tear to upgrade and is found in Nokron, Eternal City.
Bloodhound Knight FlohFast, aggressive, applies bleed itself. Creates additional blood loss triggers that keep your Lord of Blood's Exultation active. Good budget option.

Acquisition Route

Follow this order to have the right items at the right time. Nothing here requires rushing — this is the natural exploration order of the game with deliberate detours.

Limgrave — Early
Uchigatana #2 — Deathtouched Catacombs (northwest Limgrave, body at lower level) · Reduvia — kill Blood Finger Nerijus near Murkwater Cave (Yura NPC assists) · Bloody Slash AoW — Fort Haight knight (southeast Limgrave, follow path south of Mistwood) · Green Turtle Talisman — Summonwater Village underground chest · Bloodhound's Fang — Forlorn Hound Evergaol, south Limgrave
Liurnia
Carian Filigreed Crest — War Counselor Iji, northwest Liurnia (after Blaidd questline trigger at Mistwood Ruins) · Begin White Mask Varre questline at Rose Church (southwest Liurnia) — this unlocks a shortcut to Moghwyn Palace late game
Caelid / Dragonbarrow
Bloodhound's Step AoW — Night's Cavalry boss on the bridge near Lenne's Rise, Dragonbarrow (night only). This is genuinely one of the best Ashes of War in the game. Worth going here early.
Altus Plateau
Nagakiba + Eleonora's Poleblade — Complete Bloody Finger Hunter Yura questline — ends at Second Church of Marika · Godskin Peeler — Windmill Village Godskin Apostle · Begin Millicent questline (needle from Gowry's Shack in Caelid, cure her in Altus)
Mountaintops of Giants
Rivers of Blood — Church of Repose (kill invader Bloody Finger Okina) · Seppuku AoW — Invisible Teardrop Scarab on the frozen lake near Freezing Lake grace (use a torch or Ash of War to reveal it; it runs northeast when triggered) · White Mask — Three hostile NPC invaders near Mohg's invasion site in Mountaintops (all three must be defeated — they drop armour pieces)
Moghwyn Palace
Lord of Blood's Exultation — Loot from chest near Mohg's arena (or complete Varre questline) · Moghwyn's Sacred Spear — Kill Mohg, exchange remembrance at Roundtable Hold (optional, very powerful but not required)
Quest Completions
Shard of Alexander — Iron Fist Alexander questline: find him in Northern Stormhill → Gael Tunnel → Volcano Manor → Crumbling Farum Azula → fight him at the end · Rotten Winged Sword Insignia — Millicent questline completion (choose to help her at the end)

Boss Notes

Not every boss in Elden Ring is susceptible to bleed. Know this before going in.

Against Elden Beast
The Elden Beast (second phase of the final boss) is immune to both bleed and other status effects. During this fight, raw weapon AR matters. Consider keeping an Occult or Blood Rivers of Blood (physical/fire portion still works) but don't rely on Hemorrhage. The buffs (Flame, Grant Me Strength + Golden Vow) still apply.

Malenia Strategy (Rivers of Blood)

Rivers of Blood Corpse Piler became famous specifically because of Malenia. She is designed around bleed — her healing on hit is difficult to counteract — but the trick is: Corpse Piler's range lets you initiate from mid-range, bypassing her aggressive combo starters. Start the Corpse Piler animation just before she closes, catching the faster portion of the combo. Two activations deals two Hemorrhage procs and often kills her before she can heal more than once. Keep Black Knife Tiche alive as long as possible to split her attention.

Shadow of the Erdtree

The bleed build remains one of the strongest archetypes in the DLC — arguably stronger than in the base game. The DLC introduces new weapons with innate bleed, higher-scaling Arcane gear, and enemies with substantial HP pools that make the percentage-based Hemorrhage mechanic even more potent.

Scadutree Fragments — Do This First
Scadutree Fragments are the DLC's scaling system. They increase your damage output and damage negation — up to 20 stacks. Without them, even a fully optimised bleed build will feel underpowered against DLC bosses. Collect as many as you can find before engaging any DLC content. They are scattered throughout the Realm of Shadow as glowing items and rewards.

DLC Weapons Worth Grabbing

Euporia
Twinblade · Dex/Arc · Faith Touch

A holy-bleed hybrid twinblade with superb Arcane scaling. Requires a Faith investment to unlock its full potential but rewards it with exceptional damage. The running heavy attack pattern makes it a bleed machine comparable to the Godskin Peeler.

📍 Shadow of the Erdtree — obtained during Miquella's questline progression.
Backhand Blade
Dagger · Dex · Unique Moveset

Unique Ash of War with exceptional backstep and attack combo. Can be paired with Blood affinity for an aggressive, mobile off-hand that constantly ticks bleed buildup. Excellent with the Rivers of Blood main-hand setup.

📍 Early DLC area. Dropped by a Finger Maiden enemy near the starting region of the Realm of Shadow.
Messmer's Soldier Katana
Katana · Dex/Arc · Fire Bleed

A DLC katana that deals fire+bleed damage and scales well with Arcane. A natural upgrade path from the Uchigatana mid-DLC if you want something fresh. Bleed buildup is solid and the fire damage adds utility against resistant enemies.

📍 Dropped by Messmer's Knight enemies throughout the DLC region.

DLC Boss Notes

Messmer the Impaler — Highly susceptible to bleed. His phase two adds delay animations designed to bait your combo timing. Wait for his combos to fully resolve before initiating Corpse Piler. Rivers of Blood mid-range initiations are particularly effective here. Two full procs typically ends phase one.

Romina, Saint of the Bud — Apply Seppuku before the fight and lead with Swarm of Flies for immediate buildup. She has wide sweep attacks but clear recovery windows. Her rot attacks can be avoided by staying close — the wide arc misses at melee range. Two Hemorrhage procs per phase is achievable with the classic Dex/Arc setup.

Scadutree Blessing Stacking
At maximum Scadutree stacks, your Hemorrhage proc value increases substantially because your base damage increases — and Hemorrhage is partly based on weapon AR in addition to the flat HP percentage. Stack Fragments aggressively: the DLC is balanced around ~10–15 stacks minimum for mid-DLC bosses.

Quick Tips & Reference

Blood Affinity — Not Occult

Blood affinity adds both Arcane scaling AND increases blood loss buildup. Occult can match it in raw AR on some weapons but never beats it for bleed proc speed. Default to Blood unless testing proves otherwise.

Seppuku Timing

Apply Seppuku immediately before entering a boss fight, never mid-combat. The animation leaves you vulnerable. Budget ~30 seconds of uptime per application and reapply when the buff fades if the boss still lives.

Maintain Pressure — Buildup Decays

Blood loss buildup on enemies decays if you stop attacking for a few seconds. You must keep hitting. Read enemy animations for safe openings rather than waiting — this build punishes passivity.

Jump Attacks Stack Buildup

Jump attacks deal excellent stance damage and apply solid bleed. With Claw Talisman (+15%) and Raptor's Black Feathers (+10%), jump attacks become a 25% bonus damage option — strong for mid-game before Seppuku.

Corpse Piler Timing

The first hit of Corpse Piler is slow. Start the animation before the boss closes distance — you'll miss the first hit but land the faster follow-ups. Two activations typically procs Hemorrhage twice on a boss.

Hugging Large Bosses

Get in close to the chest of large enemies. Most of their arm and tail sweeps will miss entirely while you connect freely with katana attacks. This is especially effective on Dragon bosses.

White Mask + Lord of Blood

White Mask (+10% attack when blood loss occurs nearby) stacks with Lord of Blood's Exultation (+20%). After a Hemorrhage proc you have a combined ~32% attack bonus window — unleash your heaviest combos immediately.

Arcane over Dexterity at Endgame

After ~45 Dexterity, invest in Arcane first. It simultaneously raises weapon AR and blood loss buildup value. If you hit Arcane 50 and have Faith 15, consider Golden Vow (Faith 25) over further Dex — it often outperforms additional stat points.

Elden Beast — Drop Bleed

Elden Beast is fully immune to bleed. For this fight, rely on raw weapon AR and your buff stack (Flame Grant Me Strength + Golden Vow). Rivers of Blood's fire + physical portions still deal damage — just no Hemorrhage procs.
